Scarce German map reporting the progress of the Wheeler Expedition, from Petermann's Geographishce Mittheilungen. A remarkably detailed map, which includes Wheeler's route, towns, mountains, rivers, roads, wells, forts, Indian Villages, Indian Reservations, and a host of other early details. Quite possibly the most detailed map of the region published in Europe during this time period. Petermann's Geographical Bulletin compiled many of the great cartographic works of exploration during this period. The set is increasingly scarce and the individual maps appear only infrequently on the market.
