Description

Leo Belgicus Minimus! This cute little example of Leo Belgicus appears on the February 11, 1815 edition of Journal De La Belgique. The tradition of mapping the Low Countries in the shape of a lion dates to the early 17th Century. These maps have become perhaps the single most sought after of all cartographic curiosities, and rarely appear on the market for under $10,000.00, other than the Stradianus Fronticepiece maps, which typically are offered for $1000 to $2000. A marvelous little map and perhaps one of the last examples of Leo Belgicus to appear.
