Description

Detailed and interesting map of Philadelphia, hand colored by apparently by wards, although curiously so. Includes an index of public buildings, hotels, churches (including a Sews Synagogue) and banks Tanner's Atlas was the forerunner of a series of Atlases continued by Mitchell, Thomas Cowperthwait, Desilver, SA Mitchell Jr and others which extended to the early 1890s. Separate Tanner maps are increasingly scarce on the market and highy sought after. Special detail has been given to this map of Tanner's home city. A lightly toned example, with a bit of soiling, but wide margins and overall a nice example of Tanner's map, which rarely appears on the market.
