Description

Rare map of the Northern Pacific and coasts of Asia & America, based upon a map supposedly published in Gentleman's Magazine in December 1780 and in Cook's Journal. In fact, Jolly indicates that there was no such map in the Gentlemen's Magazine, making this an even more curious map. The Sandwich Islands are shown, with notes that Hawaii was visited by Cook in 1778 and Clarke in 1779. The entire route of both Cook and Clarke in the region is shown, along w/ the route of the Manilla galleon to Acapulco. Names capes & sounds along the Northwest Coast of America & shows the extent of Russian and English voyages in the north, along w/ a Glacial blockage of the NW Passage. We have only one example, but listed it twice so it would post to all regions.
