Description

Striking map of North America from Dufour's scarce Atlas Populaire. The printing style of this map is quite unique and attractive. Russian America is shown, with the Aleutians in an inset. The west consists of Nouvelle Californie, Oregon Terr, Missouri Terr, Indien Terr., Texas and a New Mexico in Mexican provincial configuration. Appacharia is shown, just above the pre-Gadsden border with Mexico. While no sign of the Gold discoveries in California are present, New Helvitia and the Sacramento R. are shown, along with the Channel Islands, Mt. San Bernardino and several early western Lakes, Indian Tribes and Forts. A scarce an interesting pre-Civil War map .
