Description

Fine uncolored example of Guicciardini's reduced version of Jacob van Deventer's survey of the province of Holland surveyed in 1537 and published first in Antwerp in nine sheets by Bernard van der Putte in 1558.

The map is Oriented with east at the top and is embellished with sailing ships, compass rose and a decorative strapwork cartouche.

On the verso, Guicciardini marvels in the text on this map that such a small country produces such prodigious amounts of milk and of cheese which is known all over Europe.
