Dear map lovers,
Below is a list of our new acquisitions of old maps. Each map can be found
at our website under the heading New Acquisitions, directly accessible at
www.orteliusmaps.com/stocklists/acquisitions.html as well as under the
various geographical regions, and has a 200 word description in HTML and an
image in low resolution and another one at high resolution (longer
downloading).
All maps by Ortelius also feature a link "background" which gives a huge
amount of detailed information about the map and which in most cases
includes a text history and an inventory of literary sources of that text.
Short biographies of these sources have now been added, including a list of
all map texts where this bibliographical source has been mentioned and used
by Ortelius.
When you buy a map made by Ortelius, you will receive a document with
translation of the text on the map itself, a listing of the various states
of this plate and a translation of the text which can be found on the back
of the map, plus information about other texts occurring for this map. On
request, we will also include in our shipment a real-size facsimile of
Ortelius' Utopia map, of which only one original copy is known to exist
(which is in our possession).
All prices are in Euros. One Euro is now about US $ 1.28.
