Dating California Map
I have a large undated 30"h by 40"w Southern California topo map covering
the area from just north of Monterey down to south of San Diego. It is
sectionalized and laid onto linen or fine canvas.
I presume it was produced either by the USGS or USCS and at the bottom
left it mentions that it may be purchased from the Bureau of Documents
for $.75. At the left of the map is a table with an "Index of Private
Land Grants". At the bottom right inside the map is "Compiled and drawn
by T.W. Gales and Lucille J. Ranney" Also at the bottom right is "The
Columbia Planograph Co., Washington, D.C."
Railroads are shown including the Pacific Electric. Lighthouses are
marked. However, I see no roads of any kind including trails and there
are no named or numbered highways. In the LA area Universal City is shown
and Hollywood, Sherman, Soldiers Home and Culver City are shown
separately.
The map is clean and bright and in near-excellent condition.
I have three low-res images of the map available if that would help
anyone with the dating.
Any help would be appreciated..
