We are pleased to offer the following:

This was the first historical work of John Oldmixon (1673_1742),
historian and pamphleteer. The first edition appeared in 1708; this
second edition, which added another 33 years of information up to the
date of publication, is considered to be the better of the two
works. The attractive maps, which are a prime feature of this work,
were executed by Herman Moll, to whom this book is often
attributed.
Volume 1 includes the history of Newfoundland, New England, New York, New
Jersey, Pennsilvania, Maryland, Virginia, Carolina, Georgia and Hudson's
Bay. Volume 2 is treats the history of Bermuda and the
Caribbean.
Oldmixon wrote his history to show the advantage to England of the
American plantations. Oldmixon credited Cotton Mather as his principal
source for his history of New England, but added that he excluded
Mather?s puns, anagrams, etc., leaving them to Mather?s admirers ?among
whom, as an Historian, this Writer is not so happy as to be
ranked.? The New England history was, in the second edition, ?as
good as new,? having been revised after Neal?s History of New
England which had been published in 1720. Oldmixon
attributed his history of Pennsylvania to ?Mr. Pen,? with whom Oldmixon
claimed a friendship. His work on Pennsylvania is considered
an original authority on the state. He protected himself against
possible charges of error by saying that if readers encountered items in
the History ?out of their knowledge...twill be unjust for
anyone to conclude they never were, because they never heard of
them.? In all a rich history of the British Colonies in North
America and the Caribbean with a collection of highly sought after
folding maps.
