A question about question marks in map titles

  • Subject: A question about question marks in map titles

To List:

There are some maps around, mostly French that I have seen, that have a
symbol like a question mark (ie ?) in odd places in the title. An example,
from a 1755 De Vaugondy map, is below. Can any kind soul put me out of my
misery and tell me what said question mark means????

Example:
"Partie De L'Amerique Septent? Qui Comprend La Nouvelle France..."

Thanks,

Neil
