Recently listed on eBay, the following manual for producing topographic maps from aerial photographs, prepared by the mapping section of the US Army in the Pacific during WWII:

"Phototopography: Prepared and Reproduced by Base Map Plant No.1 - GHQ, AFPAC 1945," 161 pages, very large format, 16 x 12 inches (40.5 x 30.5 cm), bound in stiff wraps, front cover chipped, some scribbling on front and rear covers, good condition overall.

The 2821st Engineer Base Photomapping Co. began mapping in the Pacific in July 1942, and by 1945 their Base Map Plant No.1, attached to GHQ, US Army Forces Pacific, in Melbourne, Australia, had produced 715 topographic sheets covering 475,000 square miles for the Pacific campaign from New Guinea northward to the Philippines. This incredibly detailed manual presents the methods they developed for creating a finished topo map from a series of aerial photographs.
