Early Central European Railroad Lines

Rare separately published map covering the progress of Railroad Construction in Central Europe in 1841.

This is an 1841 map titled "Carte des Chemins de Fer achevé, en construction, concédés et projetés de l'Allemagne, de l'Autriche, de la Hongrie, de la Pologne, du Royaume Lombard-Vénitien &a..." (Map of Railways Completed, Under Construction, Granted, and Projected of Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, the Lombard-Venetian Kingdom, etc.).

This early European railroad map depicts the developing rail network across central Europe, with a focus on key countries such as Germany, Austria, Hungary, and their neighboring regions.

The map highlights established rail lines, those under construction, and proposed routes, providing a detailed view of Europe's expanding rail infrastructure. Lines are drawn to illustrate both primary and secondary routes, with key connections between major cities such as Berlin, Vienna, and Krakow. The map's detailed structure demonstrates the progression of industrialization and the rise of railroads as a crucial mode of transportation.

In addition to the cartographic details, the map includes sidebars listing various routes with distances, status of completion and navigation details, emphasizing the practicality of rail travel for people and goods.

Rarity

The map is apparently very rare.

We were only able to locate the example at the Bibliotheque National de France and British Library.
