Description

Pennant's engraved folding map of East Asia, naming the "Gulf of Corea" and the "Straits of Corea".

The map shows much of East and Southeast Asia, including the "Str. of Sincapor", the "Phillippine Isles", "Canton Harbour" and Macao, a large Korean peninsula and the "Gulf of Corea".

The map is accompanied by the relevant volume of Pennant's "Outlines of the Globe" series:

The View of India Extra Gangem, China, and Japan... Vol. III.

4to, contemporary mottled calf, covers with gilt Greek key and additional gilt chain designs (spine starting, small loss to the volume lettering piece).

Pennant's Outlines of the Globe was first prepared in a large manuscript set, of which he only published four volumes.
