Description

Very Early Appearance of Arizona Territory, South of New Mexico

A gorgeous large format map of the Western United States from Kiepert's Neuer Atlas.

Washington and Oregon Territories extend to the Rocky Mountains, as does Nebraska Territory. Massive Kansas extends into modern Colorado. Utah and New Mexico extend from California to beyond the Rocky Mountains and Texas is oversized.

An unusual early appearance of Arizona shown confined to the area which comprised the Gadsden Purchase.

Wheat calls this "a charming map…of suprising worth, but goes on to lament its lack of trails and railroad routes."

It is easy to see why Wheat found the map most appealing. The map includes striking and highly accurate topographical features, extensive details on forts, Indians, mountains, rivers, and all sorts of other early information. In this this regard, the map is the equal, if not superior, to most contemporary American Atlas maps.
