Description

Rare map of the Western U.S. from Lange's Atlas von Nord-America.

Includes a pre-Gadsden border with Mexico, massive Indian Territory, and a curious North West Territory, immediately before Nebraska Territory was created. Oregon runs to the Rocky Mountains. Massive Utah and New Mexcio Territories extend from California to (and slightly beyond) the Rocky Mountains. Nice detail in Colorado, including Bent's Fort, St. Vrain's Fort, James Peak, South, Middle and North Parks, Pike's Peak, Long's Peak, Pueblo and Canon.

The Oregon Trail is noted, as are a number of early forts including Ft. Laramie, Ft. Kearney, Ft. Colville, Ft. Kutaine, Ft. Vancouver, Ft. Walla Walla, Ft. Hall, the American Fur Depot on the Columbia River, etc. Sublette is noted near Fremont's Peak on the Yellowstone River. Many Indian tribes are named. Inset of San Francisco Bay.

This is the first time we have ever seen this scarce map offered on the market.
