Description

San Antonio at the Time It Was The Largest City In Texas

Scarce early map of San Antonio, Texas, locally printed in San Antonio by Nic Tengg.

This is the expanded edition of the map which Tengg first issued circa 1895, reflecting significant growth in San Antonio and its suburbs. The map now extends further north, south and west, with each of these areas showing named suburbs. The growth in the southwest is most notable, with over a dozen newly created subdivisions named. The Fort Sam Houston complex is also greatly expanded.

The map provides a detailed look at the city, naming streets, street car lines, railroads, major buildings, the US Arsenal, etc.

A fine early map, reflecting the growth in San Antonio in the early 1900s. Between 1880 and the time of the printing of this map, San Antonio grew to become the largest city in Texas, with the population of San Antonio going from about 20,000 to 120,000 residents, and 4 new railroad lines reached the city.
