Description

Scarce promotional map, showing all of Alaska with an inset of the Klondike regions and focused on the routes to Dawson and the Gold Fields.

The map depicts two primary routes, one up the Yukon River from the West and a second up the inside passage from Seattle, with branches starting at Sitka and Juneau. Along the route, a number of different routes are shown, including the Teslin Route, Takou route, Chilcat Pass, Chilkoot Pass, etc., with a larger inset of the area around Dawson.

The map appears in several forms. The most common would appear to be as a supplement to Frank Leslie's Illustrated News. In addition, the map was apparently licensed as a promotional piece to several outfitters, including Charles Moll (See University of Alaska, Fairbanks copy) and J.B. Barnaby Company ( /gallery/detail/21287 ).
