Rare blue backed chart of Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Cape Cod, Block Island, Montauk Point and the coastline of Connecticut, Rhode Island and the southern coastline of Massachusetts, published by Charles Copley in New York.
Includes Narrangansett Bay, Buzzard's Bay, Vineyard Sound, and Chatham Bay.
One of the earliest separately published sea charts to focus closely on this stretch of coastline.
At the top left, a detailed chart includes a Tide Table and information on Buoys.
Includes an advertising paste down for Riggs & Brother, Chronometer and Nautical Store, in Philadelphia.
The chart is apparently very rare. We locate only an 1864 example of the chart in the British Library.
Condition Description
Blue backed chart. Minor chipping in the margins and minor marginal soiling. Minor marginal tears, expertly repaired on the verso.
