Description

A large and unusually attractive chart of world history represented chronologically as a branching tree.

While there has been a longstanding tradition of representing the veins of history in the form of a branching tree, it is actually very seldom that one encounters such pieces on the market. The present example includes branches for the leaders of Babylon, Egypt, Africa, Europe, Sweden, and other areas.

The design adopts a somewhat atypical form in that it separates a few of the initial branches (e.g., Europe and China) from the three sons of Noah -- Sem, Cham, and Japheth. Before the first branching out, the chronology of the world is shown up to the birth of Noah. The history of China starts at a very early time, predating the Egyptians.

The map was evidently issued with a companion piece titled: Table Chronologique de L'Histoire Moderne Depuis Le Commencement de L'Ere Chretienne Jusqu'a Nos Jours.

The title of the present chart, translated into English, reads: "Chronological Table of Ancient History from Creation up to the Christian Era."

Joseph Bonatti and Antoine Sandi are the engravers. It is dedicated to Joseph Priuli, the Venetian nobleman, and it was published in Venice by Teodore Viero.
