Theater of War -- Battle for Control of Korea.

Scarce map of the Theater of Operations during the first Sino-Japanese War (August 1, 1894 to April 17, 1895)

The map appeared in the Military Information Division's Notes on the War between China and Japan, published in 1896.

The map focuses on northeastern China and the Korean Peninsula, focusing on the topographical features of the region, along with the major roads and rivers.

First Sino-Japanese War

The First Sino-Japanese War was fought between the Qing Empire of China and the Empire of Japan, primarily over control of Korea. The War ended quickly, after a string of losses by the Chinese at land and sea.

The war resulted in a brief shift of regional dominance in East Asia from China to Japan. Within China, the defeat was a catalyst for a series of political upheavals led by Sun Yat-sen and Kang Youwei, culminating in the 1911 Xinhai Revolution.

In Korea, where much of the war took place, it is called the Qing-Japan War.
