Description
Scarce large format map of China, including Korea, Formosa (Taiwan) and Japan, published in the collection of Relation de Divers Voyages Curieux . . . by Thevenot.
While based in part on Martini's map of China, the map is significantly revised and improved. Hokkaido is joined to the mainland and there are generally more details and place names throughout the map.
Thevenot's
Relations de divers Voyages Curieux . . . is one of the most important compilations of voyages published in the second half of the 17th Century and was described by Thomas Suarez as a work "which was to France what Hakluyt's writing had been to England and Ramusio's had been to Italy."
Condition Description
Minor repair at one fold intersection.
