Description

Highly detailed map centered on the course of the Danube River, from Hungary to Romania, published by Claes Jansson Visscher in Amsterdam.

The map extends from Maribor, Zagreb and Vienna in the west to Sibiu, Pitesti and Fagaras in Romania.

Engraved by Joannes Van Deutecum, the map was first published in 1596 by Cornelis Claesz, then by David de Meyen in 1619, Pieter Van Den Keere in 1620 and this edition of 1624. This is the later state of the Visscher map, dated 1634.
