Description

A very early plan of Washington, after Ellicott.

The District of Columbia is still referrred to as "The Territory of Columbia." A number of landmarks are located, including the President's House, and New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky and Georgia Avenues are all named. Only a relatively simple plan for Geogetown is given. Includes a large compass rose.

The map is apparently quite rare and this is the second time we have encountered the map in 24 years (as of 2014). Thomas Clerk was an engraver in Edinburgh.
