Description

A rare and attractive map of the World, printed in Athens, employing Greek text.

The map is embellished by more nearly 100 flags of the nations of the world, all named in Greek.

This colorful World map was issued in the 1930s, shortly before World War II. Africa is still divided up amongst the European powers, with most of western Africa falling under the French colonial sphere, while much of southern and eastern Africa is made up by British colonies. In Europe, Germany, Poland and Finland possess their interbellum borders. In Asia, the British still hold their vast empire in India, while the Dutch dominate what would later become Indonesia.

Most curious is the presence of Manchukuo in the northeastern China, the puppet state set up in 1932 by the Japenese in Manchuria. The World's major railways are delineated in red.

Both above and below the map itself are a series of national flags, especially interesting as many are no longer in use.
