Description

Rare map of Mexico, Texas, Upper California and contiguous regions, published in Spain at the beginning of the 19th Century.

The map presents a charming topographical image, finely engraved and with a relatively good depiction of the Hydrographical knowledge of the Rivers in the region, although retaining an unnamed Lake Timpanagos and Rio de Dolores flowing to San Francisco Bay.

The lack of detail in the map is likely a product of the Spanish doctrine of secrecy in the regions then controlled by Spain--allowing for a topographical depiction of the region but omitting place names, etc.

This is the first time we have ever seen this map offered for sale.
