Description

An important colonial edict signed by Philip V of Spain reflecting his policy regarding American natives.

Philip V; Pinedo, Gaspar de. El Rey. Por quanto habiendose entendido en mi Consejo de las Indias, que el maestro Fr. Joseph de Obregon. 1706. Madrid.

Philip V was the first Bourbon King of Spain, following the War of Succession and an un-interrupted line of Hasburg ruling of nearly 200 years. This decree expressly forbids Indian members of religious orders from going to Spain, according to the King, in light of the problem caused by Suarez' visit.

The signature of Gaspar de Pinedo follows the signature of the King and it ends ordering distribution to his officers in the Indies (Viceroys, Governors and Provincials).
