Description

Rare early map of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and part of Chile, published under the direction of Pablo E. Coni in Buenos Aires.

Pablo Emilio Coni is one of the most important Argentine printers of the 19th Century. Coni was a French trained printer, who was initially intending to travel to California, but wound up in Montevideo, Uruguay. After a brief period of employment in Corrientes, he relocated to Buenos Aires. He obtained a position with Argentine President Juan Pujol, who entrusted him to reorganize and run the printing office. Coni served in this capacity from 1856 to 1859. During this time, he also founded a newspaper.

Coni moved to Europe in 1859 and returned in 1861, founded a printing business, where he printed books, pamphlets and periodicals, which he also edited, including journals on Phamaceuticals, History and Science.
