Description

Nice example of what would appear to be the original promotional development map for Palisades Del Rey (Playa Del Rey)

The map shows the original subdivison, with Residential sites n light green, business sites in blue, residential income sites in buff and parks in dark green. The Westport Beach Club site is also shown. ON the verso is a summary of Restrictions for the community , beginning with "Racial Restrictions."

Palisades Del Rey and the neighboring community of Surfside were originally developed by Dickinson & Gillespie in the early 1920s. Palisades Del Rey would later become Playa Del Rey (named for the estuary first acquired by M.C. Wicks in 1887, with the intention of developing a commercial harbor), while the community of Surfside would be torn down as part of the constructions of the LA International Airport. The original community of Palisades Del Rey was the last stretch of beach to be developed in Los Angeles. All of the houses were custom built, many owned by Hollywood actors and producers, including Cecil B. Demille, Charles Bickford, and others.

The plan is apparently very rare. We were not able to locate any other example.
