Description: Highly detailed view of Des Moines Iowa, published by Mills & Co, promoting the Hawkeye Insurance Company. The map was apparently included as an insert to a local Des Moines Newspaper. The Persinger Saturday Times was a short lived periodical, which existed from April 1885 to December 1887. It must be assumed that this view was an insert to a December 1885 edition. We find no references to the Persinger Holiday Times as a separate publication. Reps notes an earlier view by Mills & Co., dated 1876, which is 35 x 19 inches (Reps 1031). This would appear to be a different (and possibly unrecorded view). The view is taken from a different perspective than the 1868 Ruger View of De Moines and shows a much larger city. Condition Description: Flattened and laid on thin sheet of archival paper. Minor fold weakness, minor tears and minor losses, supported on verso.
