Title: Virginia Map Maker: Jan Jansson
Description: Scarce 1648 Jansson map of the Chesapeake region, based upon John Smith's map of the region frist published in 1612. Jansson's map replaced the Peter Van der Keere engraved map of the same region issued in the 1630 Cloppenburg edition of Mercator's Atlas sive Cosmographicae. The map appeared in the 1648 and 1651 editions of the atlas only and is therefore quite rare on the market. Condition Description: Color a bit faded References: Burden 226.
