Description: Decorative full color example of this wonderful map of the South Pacific, with large vignettes of Kalakakooa Sandwich Islands, Otaheite, the Harbour of Dory in New Guinea and Resolution Bay, Marquesas. The view of Captain Cook's landing at Hawaii at the top center is a relatively accurate depiction of the original view published in the Official Journal for Cook's Third Voyage. Engraved for R. Montgomery Martin's Illustrated Atlas. Tallis was one of the last great decorative map makers. His maps are prized for the wonderful vignettes of indigenous scenes, people, etc.
