Description: Sylvanus' map of Poland, the Baltic, Russia and Ukraine, extending south to the Black Sea and west to the Vistula.
Sylvanus's map is one of the earliest obtainable maps of the region and the first printed in two colors.
The map appeared in Sylvanus' Claudii Ptholemaei Alexandrini liber Geographicae . . ., publish in Venice in 1511. The Sylvanus edition of Ptolemy is one of the earliest to include maps with modern geographical updates. The map was printed on two plates and was printed back to back, such that the verso of the map has half ot two other maps on the verso, as issued.
Condition Description: Two printed plates, which have been joined, as usual. The right image is a bit weaker than the left image. One spot near Daciae.
