Rare early map of Louisiana, which illustrated Paul Wilhelm Friedrich Herzog, the Duke of Wurttemberg's account of his travels in America, Erste Reise Nach Dem Nordlichen Amerika in Den Jahren 1822 Bis 1824.

The map shows an extesnsive road system throughout the state, along with early parishes, towns, rivers, Indian villages and other details.  It would appeare to be largely based upon Carey & Lea's map of 1822, but with revisions and additions.

the Duke of Wurttemberg travelled throughout the Mississippi valley, and ventured as far west as Council Bluffs, visiting the Pawnee, Osage, and Oto Indian tribes. His narrative was first printed at Mergentheim in 1828 under the title of Reise in Nördamerika.
