Striking view of Matavia (Matavai) Bay on the island of Tahiti, drawn from the explorations of Captain James Cook.

The 'Resolution' and 'Adventure' first anchored in Matavai Bay, on the north side of Tahiti, in mid-August 1773. William Hodges painted a number of paintings during this stay, including several of the Bay.

Alexander Hogg Biography

Alexander Hogg was a publisher active in London from 1778 to 1824. He worked under the sign of the Kings Arms on Paternoster Row. He is especially known for publishing architectural and historical prints, as well as maps.
