Description: Fine example of the engraved view of Niagara Falls, which was one of 4 inset maps intended for Popple's A Map of the British Empire in America . . . ., first printed in 1733.
The original Tom's view was also separately issued and periodically appears as a set of 4 views, the others being Mexico City, Quebec and New York City. In 1741, Coven & Mortier issued a reduced sized version of Popple's map on 4 sheets, with a separate sheet for the 4 views. This example is from either the Covens & Mortier or Popple original.
