Description

Interesting large map of the American Southwest, from Gilliam's Travels . . .

Wheat notes that the map includes some interesting details and some which is a bit dated. Pike's Peak is still named James Peak. Fremont's 1843 expedition results are included, but not the results from his 1845 expedition. The course of the Sacramento is highly inaccurate. A massive set of mountains just south of San Francisco is shown. Mount San Bernardino is named, one of the earliest appearances on a printed map. A number of forts are located in the northwest.

Condition Description
Minor tape repairs on verso, which can be seen on the frontice of the map.
