Description

Finely engraved certificate of merit, awarded to the Murano Glass Company of Venice, during the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

This extraordinary certificate was printed and engraved by the US Treasury, especially for the Exposition. An exceptional large allegorical image, comemmorating the Murano Glass Company exhibition. The certificate is apparently quite rare, perhaps because most were awarded to foreign exhibitors. The only example we could locate was in the Newcastle City Collection (New South Wales, Australia), which ironically was awarded for "for excellent map drawing and fine crayon work."
