Description: Good example of Hendrik Doncker's rare map of a portion of the East Coast of America, covering the North America from the Carolinas to New Foundland (Long Island shown as an Island), the Eastern Caribbean (including Hispaniola and Puerto Rico), Bermuda and the Coast of South America from Venezuela to Pernambuco in Brazil. The chart also shows the Azores and Canaries. East is oriented at the top. Block Island is named. Classic sea chart, with many coastal place names shown. The first edition of this scarce chart was issued in 1660, with subsequent editions issued over the next 20 years. Donckert's work tends to be much rarer than most of his contemporaries. Decorative cartouche, 2 compass roses and ships at sea, plus rhumblines. Condition Description: The map has been cleaned and remargined, with occaisional loss of image along the neatline, restored in fascimile, especially in the upper left corner.
