Description

Extremely rare Spanish map of the World, finely engraved and published by the famous Spanish Artist, Pablo Minguet.

The ma includes the most up to date cartographic information, along with fine images of a Nocturalabe, armillary spheres of Ptolemy and Copenicus and a modern terrestrial globe, etc. The depictions of Australia, New Zealand and Baja Californa are of note, although the curious coastline running east from Corea is very unique.

This is one of only a few maps which was engraved by Minguet, almost certainly early in his career, before he became a noted artist. According to Volume 4 of the Annals of Spanish Artists, by William Stirling Maxwell, among his other engravings, Minguet is known to have furnished the title-page, portrait, and other plates, to the elaborate work of Christobal Rodriguez, on Spanish polygraphy.
