Deforrest's map of the route to the Gold Regions is one of the first printed maps to come from the 1859 Colorado Gold Rush.  The map first appear in Hand book to the gold fields of Kansas and Nebraska, by Byers & Kellom, which appeared no later than the first week of February 1859 (advertisement in the Chicago Tribune appeared February 4, 1859).  The map traces the emigrant routes from Des Moines, Kansas City and St. Joseph, along with the mail routes in the region.    A wide swath of the front range is described as being Gold Country, with early place names including Cheyenne, Laramie Peak,Crow Creek, St. Vrain, Aurora, Cherry Creek, Beaver Creek, Pike's Peak, North Park, South Park, Middle Park, Long's Peak, Goochatope Paass, Pueblo and Bent's Fort.

The map subsequently appeared in and April edition of Harper's Weekly and was also issued as a separate broadside.  It is rare in all forms, this being the first time we have ever seem the map offered for sale.  One of the earliest obtainable maps from the Colorado Gold Rush.
