Description

Rare Birdseye View of Denver, which includes 16 views of prominent buildings surrounding the main view, along with a view of Denver in 1859.

The map shows a detailed view of the sprawling metropolis of Denver, naming streets, rivers, railroads and several other landmarks. The present example was used by the firm of E.S. Mills Insurance and Loans as a promotional piece. The buildings identified in the insets include City Hall, Denver High School, Rocky Mountain Brewery, Union Depot, Tabor Block, St. Mary's Academy, Arapahoe County Court House, St. James Hotel, Silver Queen Hotel, Central Presbyterian Church, St. Johns Cathedral, Col. National Bank, Windsor Hotel, Lavetta Place, National Mining & Industrial Exposition Building, and Tabor Opera House.

The view is extremely rare, with only 3 examples located by OCLC (Denver Public Library, Colorado Historical Society and Southern Methodist University), although this is the only example with the additional advertising on the view. The map was drawn by J.H. Flett for Flett, Bischel & Ilgenfritz, with credit to Strobridge Co of Cinncinati, lithographers.
