A rare map centered on the province of Genova and including Nice and northern Corsica.
Taken from
Les Cartes Generales . . . published in Paris in 1634 and in Jean Boisseau's
Theatre Du Galles, published in Paris in 1642. The map focuses on Liguria and the Northern part of Corsica. Tassin, was the Royal Cartographer of Dijon. Once he moved to Paris, his whole production was concentrated on small French maps.
On the lower left-hand corner, an eagle holding the titlle cartouche is depicted. The sea is also decorated by several ships and a sea monster.
A fine full color example of this great rarity.
Nicolas Tassin (fl. 1633-55) was appointed 'royal cartographer' at Dijon before setting up as an engraver in Paris where he issued various collections of small maps and plans of France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain. Tassin first published his maps in his own atlas Cartes Generale de Toutes Les Provinces de France in 1634, with an enlarged second edition in 1637 (France, royaumes et provinces d'Europe).
