Description

Rare facsimile edition of the first map of Lake Superior, upper Lake Michigan and this part of the Great Lakes region, which appeared in Relations des Missions, published in 1672. The map was prepared by fathers Claude Dablon and Claude Allouez, and was part of the expansion of the Jesuits into the Upper Midwest and Canada, following the discoveries on Champlain, Marquette, Jolliet, Peré, La Salle and others who explored the region in the 17th Century. The original map is of the utmost rarity and rarely appears on the market. This facsimile edition is also quite scarce.
