The chart offers a clear depiction of the Atchafalaya Bay's topography and hydrological characteristics, marking it as an informative tool for navigators and researchers of the era. This chart is notable for its depiction of the Atchafalaya Bay prior to significant transformations due to natural sedimentation processes and human interventions such as levees and dams. As such, it is a reference point for understanding the historical state of this coastal landscape.

At the bottom left are tide details and abbreviatrions. At the lower right is a set of sailing instructions note, and details for the Light House and Light Vessel, along with a detailed list of compilation information, showing that that the survey and other details for the chart were collected between 1855 and 1858.
