Description

This is a guide map published for people sightseeing around the Edo area.  The map covers areas as far east as present-day Kogane and Funabashi in Chiba Prefecture, south as Haneda and Kawasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture and Aoki-cho in Yokohama City, Fuchu in the west, and Omiya and Iwatsuki in Saitama Prefecture in the north.

In the latter half of the Edo period, an increasing number of people went not only to Edo town but also to its surrounding areas for sightseeing and excursions. For this reason, this map also shows famous places, historic sites, shrines and temples, village names, new field names, etc., and the display is unified by symbols.

As the commentary says, ``If you want to spend a few days sightseeing, it's a good idea for people who like to go on excursions,'' which shows that strolling around the suburbs was popular at this time.
