Description: Fine example of D'Anville's map of the region just north of Mongolia and below.
Shows a number of rivers and a few settements and the road from Niptchou or Nerzinskoi to Beijing, beginning in eastern part of the map. Decorative cartouche.
In 1765, an anonymous French writer described Nerzinskoi as a "city state of the Grand Duke of Muscovy to Siberia, the provincial capital of the Nerz dows. It is fortified, provided witha good grrison and inhabited by Pagans who live under the protection of th Czar."
