Description: Interesting celestial chart/clock designed to show how the sun's light moves about the earth during a 24 hour day. Within the clock cabinet are celestial symbols, and the Northern Hemisphere, showing California as an Island. A sun lights two thirds of the surface. German text surround the image. The theories here led John Harrison to design the first clock to measure time accurately enough to ascertain longitude in the 1760s. McLAUGHLIN: 208. This example has a long expertly repaired centerfold split and a long expertly repaired tear in the lower left corner. Ordinarily a $1200.00 map, the price has been reduced to account for the condition, although visually it remains a decorative example.
