Description: Large format plan map showing the subdivision of the Jackson Estate in the south part of Ossing, New York.
At the top, the Turnpike Road from Albany to New York appears. To the West is the Hudson River and at the South is the "State Land", which includes Sing Sing Prison and quarries. The remnants of Jackson's estate still appear at the center ofthe map, including the main house and garden.
Ossing was originally named Sing Sing after the Mohican village of the same name. The map shows the Sing Sing Prison, shortly after its construction in 1825.
George Cartwright was a Westchester Civil Engineer and prominent citizen of Sing Sing, who apparently designed th prison. In 1837, he published a Map of Upper Sing Sing Laid out in Lots, and was also the civil engineer who designd the Van Cortlandt estate and the Croton Aqueduct.
Condition Description: Linen back. Some infill to losses within the image, but over all quite nice
