Description:

De La Fosse's map of America is one of the rarest of all maps to show the Bay of the West.

The map provides a large format and relatively unique depiction of the Bay of the West (Mer  De L'Ouest), along with several annotations regarding the discoveries of Admiral De Fonte and the Russian Discoveries in the region, circa 1741 and 1748. Both the Martin D'Aguilar and Juan De La Fuca entries into the Bay are noted.

The map is of the utmost rarity, with only the example in the University of North Carolina collection and a copy in a private American collection noted.  We note no examples of the map in AMPR going back for nearly 30 years and only 2 maps of other regions by Delafosse, both published by Mondhare in Paris.

Condition Description: Several repaired fold splits. Printed on very heavy paper.
