Description: Scarce Dutch sea-chart, showing Sardinia and the Barbary Coast, with an inset of Tabaraca.
Includes a tremendous blend of topographical and hydrographical details. The detail on the island of Sardinia is especially noteworthy.
This sea chart represents Sardinia, the southern coast of Corsica and part of the African coast. East on top. It contains an enlarged inset map of the Island Tabarca, from Van Keulen's "De Nieuwe Groote Lichtende Zee-Fackel." The atlas was published by Johannes van Keulen (1654-1715) and his son Gerard with the cooperation of the mathematician and surveyor, Claes Jansz. Voogt. The chart is beautifully engraved with a large decorative cartouche, compass roses and rhumb lines.
This example has been revised from earlier editions to include significantly more topographical detail within Sardinia and signrficant revisions and additonal coastal information.
Condition Description: Minor soiling.
